This guide explains how to install and deinstall the EWC Module for backup3G 3.2 or newer.

Installing the EBC Module

The installation procedure copies the EBC files to a target directory you specify, then adds the module to the COSmanager application table. See Installing COSmanager Applications in the COSmanager User Guide for full details of how to install COSmanager add-on modules.


Which hosts should EBC be installed on?

The EBC Module must be installed on the backup3G master host, and each drive host that you wish to backup Windows data to.


To Install the EBC Module

  1. Copy the cpio archive to a directory on the local host.
  2. Launch COSmanager, then select Config from the COSmanager button bar.
  3. From the Product configuration menu, select COSmanager configuration > COSmanager applications.
  4. Select Application > Install.
  5. Enter the full path to the file name to install from, or choose from the pull-down list of files.
  6. Press Accept.
  7. EBC must be installed under an existing copy of backup3G. If more than one version of backup3G is installed you must choose which version to use.


The install procedure now:

  • adds an entry for EBC 2.1 to the COSmanager applications table
  • copies the EBC files from the tape to the target directory.


Note - You may see ERROR or WARNING messages during the installation. These are due to local backup3G versions of certain files. The installation script creates new versions of certain backup3G files. If local versions of these files exist, (in the local backup3G directory structure) they will be used as templates for the new files instead of the original files. As it is impossible to ascertain the modifications made to these local versions, the new files created may not be correct. The new files are created in the Enterprise Backup Client Module directory. Contact the Functional Support Line for further assistance.

Once the Enterprise Backup Client module is installed, you will need to restart backup3G to pick up changes made by the installation.

This completes the installation of the EBC Module. The next step is to configure the EBC settings for this host.


Configuring the EBC Module

To configure EBC for backup3G you need to:


Define Windows host(s)

  1. From the option COSmanager configuration > Hosts select the host to define.
  2. Define the Communications Method as COSserver or rsh.
  3. Set the Host Type to “x86 - Windows”. Once this is chosen the OS Version field defaults to “Windows/NT 4”. Change to another version if required.
  4. Press Accept.

Note - You must set the Host Type field to “x86 - Windows” or some components of the EWC Module will not work!

Once all the Windows NT hosts have been defined, select Remote > Allow access. This will give those hosts defined rsh Communications method, access to this host for backup purposes.


Define Windows tape drive(s)

To add a new drive, you must first determine the name of the tape device. If your drive is not yet attached to your host, see your operating system manual for information on attaching and configuring tape devices. To determine the name of the tape device go to the Control Panel on the Windows host and choose Tape Devices. Select the device you want to know the name of and press the Properties button. The name of the device is displayed against the Device Map field.

To add the drive:

  1. Select backup3G configuration > Maintain drives and stackers.
  2. Select Maintain > Add.
    Physical drive name
    Enter a name for the drive that is physically attached to the computer.
    Logical name
    Enter a logical drive name. If there is only one logical drive for this physical drive, use the same name for both.
    Media type
    Press Choose to list the valid media types. Select a media type to associate with this logical drive. (To add a new media type, see the backup3G User Guide).
    Drivehost
    Choose the name of the host machine to which this drive is physically attached.
    Device
    Leave this field blank.
    Device (no rewind)
    Enter the name of the device as specified against the Device Mapfield in the properties dialog for the device on the Windows host. Examples: tape0, tape1, tape2.
    Description
    Enter a description. Example: “2GB DAT drive on windows”
    Operations class
    Select “mt_tape” - Generic tape operations via MT(1) command.
    Operator msg
    This is an optional message that can be used to prompt the operator to perform some action before the drive is loaded. Example: “switch drive tape-2 from Host A to Host B”.
    Buffer size (KB)
    Not supported by EWC. Leave this field blank.
    Loading Location
    The location from where media are loaded into this drive. When a backup job requests new media for this drive, backup3G selects a scratch volume from this location. For a manually-loaded drive this is usually your main media library.
    To add a media library, see the backup3G User Guide.
    Loading class
    The class of loader operations, or the command class used to load and unload the drive. For manually-loaded drives select the default option, ‘Manual loading and unloading’, or if automatic unloading is supported, select ‘manual-mt’.
  3. Press Accept.

EWC options will be available to backup3G the next time you restart backup3G.


Deinstalling the EWC Module

  1. From the COSmanager configuration menu, select COSmanager applications.
  2. Select EBC.
  3. Select Application > Deinstall.
  4. Press Accept to remove the software from disk and to remove its entry in the application table. Press Exit to leave the application as is.
