This chapter explains how to install and deinstall DA-Oracle.
DA-Oracle is an add-on module for backup3G, and is installed through the COSmanager configuration menu.
You will need:
- a distribution containing the DA-Oracle module
- COSmanager 4.2.1 (or newer) and backup3G 3.2.3 (or newer) must already be installed and licensed on each target host
- the name of the Oracle user and the location of the oratab file
- you must be a COSmanager user with the Manager or Config role.
Contents |
Installing DA-Oracle
The installation procedure copies the DA-Oracle files to a target directory you specify, then adds the module to the COSmanager application table.
See Installing COSmanager Applications in the COSmanager User Guide for full details of how to install COSmanager add-on modules.
Which hosts should DA-Oracle be installed on
The DA-Oracle software must be installed on the backup3G master host, and every host that has Oracle 7.x/8i/9i/10g databases that you wish to back up.
Note | |
DA-Oracle does not support the Oracle Parallel Server option. |
To Install DA-Oracle
If you will be installing from a file, copy the cpio archive to the /tmp
directory on the local host.
- Launch COSmanager, then select Config from the COSmanager button bar.
- From the Product configuration menu, select COSmanager configuration > COSmanager applications .
- Select Application > Install .
- Enter the full path to the file name to install from, or choose from the pull-down list of files.
- Press Accept.
- DA-Oracle must be installed under an existing copy of backup3G. If more than one version of backup3G is installed you must choose which version to use.
The install procedure now:
- adds an entry for DA-Oracle 2.2.2 to the COSmanager applications table
- copies the DA-Oracle files from the tape to the target directory
- updates the backup method and backup format tables with new entries.
This completes the installation phase. The next step is to configure the Oracle.
Configuring DA-Oracle
DA-Oracle needs to know the name of the Oracle account, the location of the oratab file and value of $ORACLE_BASE on each host. Until you specify these, DA-Oracle will not be able to back up Oracle databases on this host.
If you choose to continue, DA-Oracle displays the ‘Oracle configuration’ prompt form.
If you choose to exit now from the installation procedure, you will have to run this configuration task later: from the backup3G configuration menu select Initial configuration. Select the tasks ‘Configure Oracle backup’, then select Perform > Selected .
- Fill in the following fields:
- The name of the Oracle user
- Choose the account that owns the Oracle files on this host. If this is the backup3G master host and Oracle is not installed, leave this field blank and press Accept now.
- The location of the “oratab” file
- Enter the name of the oratab file. DA-Oracle uses this to find the location of each SID.
- The value of “$ORACLE_BASE” environment variable
- Enter the value of the $ORACLE_BASE. DA-Oracle uses this to find certain files of each SID to back up.
- Press Accept.
DA-Oracle options will be added to backup3G the next time you restart backup3G.
Deinstalling DA-Oracle
- From the COSmanager configuration menu, select COSmanager applications.
- Select DA-Oracle.
- Select Application > Deinstall.
- Press Accept to remove the software from disk and to remove its entry in the application table. Press Exit to leave the application as is.
