Getting Started DA-Oracle is the Oracle Backup module for COSbackup. DA-Oracle is a set of backup and restore procedures that lets you perform: • offline backup of an Oracle instance • online backup of an Oracle instance or specified tablespaces • export of an Oracle instance or specified tablespaces • archive and backup of redo log files • full or partial restore of backed-up Oracle objects. DA-Oracle lets you quickly restore Oracle files in the event of a system failure. Once the files are restored from tape, database recovery should be done by a qualified Oracle DBA. Scheduling and monitoring of Oracle backups is exactly the same as for any other backup job in COSbackup. DA-Oracle supports Oracle 7.x, 8i and 9i. 2 Getting Started About this manual This manual is the primary reference for setting up and using DA-Oracle, and is designed to help users and administrators to use DA-Oracle and COSbackup effectively. It describes: • how to install and configure the Oracle Backup module • how to configure backup items for Oracle databases • how to search for backups of particular Oracle objects • how to restore from an Oracle backup. Who should use this guide This guide is aimed at: • managers who need an overview of what DA-Oracle can do • DBA staff who need to plan database backup strategies and design backup procedures • system administrators who need to configure backups and control access to COSbackup • operators who may need to run backups or restore files under direction from the DBA.
